Hi Parents,
I hope this message finds you all well. I would like to inform you all on what next year will look like. I have been trying to wait until I received an abundance of information before I presented it to you. Please note that we are proactively making the best decisions for our students based on factual information as fast as we can. I will continue to update this thread as more information becomes available to me.
SUMMER SCHOOL:
Our 3 week Summer School session has been CANCELLED. We have collectively decided that we should focus all of energy into preparing for the 2020-2021 school year and the virtual learning platform we will be offering. We will have a plan integrated into our schedule to ensure that we address any learning gaps that may have occurred due to the nature of the end of the last school year.
START DATES:
Our start date is will now be on August 24, 2020 in order to stay in alignment with the PCSB. This decision was made because we do have several other parents that have students in our public school systems and we understand it is easier on parents if their children are all on the same schedule. We will continue to monitor dates closely. I will publish our school calendar by next Friday, July 24, 2020.
LEARNING OPTIONS:
To begin, private schools have been given the option to offer virtual learning to our parents with the approval of the FL Dept. of Education. Therefore, we will have this option available next year. I am working on a webinar to go into this option in detail. It will hopefully be completed by tomorrow, July 17, 2020. We will also be required to open our brick and mortar school. If you choose this option, your child(ren) will be required to wear masks. We will ensure that we are following all other CDC guidelines as much as possible.
CLARIFICATION: For the 2020-2021 school year, you will be able to choose if your child physically attends school or uses the virtual learning platform before August 24, 2020.

OCA Updates 3/26/2020
Loaner Devices
There were many more families that needed loaner devices than originally anticipated. Therefore, devices will be given out between Sunday (3/22) and Monday (3/23). We will be giving K-2nd grade tablets and 3rd-8th grade laptops due to the nature of their coursework.
Distance Learning Start Dates
The original start date was Monday, March 23, 2020, but the workload to get everything setup and organized is going to take much longer. Therefore, our definite start date will be Monday, March 30, 2020 for distance learning. While distributing laptops, I will also be distributing the student workbooks so those don't go to waste. Students will work in their workbooks starting on Monday, March 23, 2020. They will have to use a phone to photograph their work and submit it.
MobyMax
We have switched to another platform within MobyMax. I will reassign the students accounts and will try to keep the same username and password for all students. If any usernames or passwords should change, I will notify you all via text.
Please click the file below to download. Read through this tutorial to familiarize yourselves with MobyMax.

Distance Learning
We are structuring distance learning so that our students can complete assignments within in a certain timeframe in case there are multiple students using one device. There will be certain aspects of distance learning that will require virtual interactions with teachers, such as sight word tests, etc.

OCA Updates 3/19/2020
School Closing
Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that K-12 schools in Florida will remain closed until Wednesday, April 15. As a private institution, we have been strongly encouraged to do the same. We have decided to follow the guidance of our community and state leaders to remain closed until April 15th. I do understand that the district has stated that the school calendar will extend until June 30th. We are still waiting for clarification about this being a requirement of private schools as well and will keep you informed.
Scholarships
The Florida Department of Education and Step Up for Students have communicated to us that scholarships will not be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also still disbursing the final scholarship checks as scheduled and they will still need to be endorsed by all parents. It is imperative that we get this done in a quick, safe manner once they arrive so that we can continue our normal school business as effectively as possible. I will text you when they arrive with a method that will be the safest for everyone.
School Grades & Standardized Testing
All statewide assessments have been canceled this school year. The Florida Department of Education will not assign grades to schools and districts for 2019-20 (this does not refer to grades for students). Due to being a private organization, this does not specifically include us. We are waiting for Commissioner of Education to waive this requirement for private schools.
Students will still receive course grades based on their coursework as usual. Grading will continue to go through QuickSchools.
***Distance Learning***
We will be using a variety of platforms for distance learning until our return to school. Our main source of learning will be via MobyMax. Students will be required to log in each day for attendance purposes and have assignments submitted by the deadlines. Specific instructions for this will be listed on MobyMax. I will post details on how to navigate and manage this type of learning on MobyMax as well. It will be imperative that all students and parents take their classwork just as serious as they would if we were physically going to school. All school policies for attendance and grading will remain the same.
Notes from the Principal
Families, first and foremost, thank you all so much for your cooperation and patience as we switch over to this new way of learning. I apologize that we did not get this information out to you all yesterday. I was waiting on specific questions to be addressed by the DOE. I want to ensure that I am giving you ACCURATE and DEFINITIVE information. We shall not be misinformed!
We are launching our distance learning on Monday, March 23, 2020. Please feel free to text through Remind or email questions at ovellschristian@gmail.com. I will have office hours for phone calls, as will Mrs. Morales since she is working as well. We will post those on Moby Max at a later time. We have to create some type of balance as we both have families and have our children home with us. Therefore, we will not be able to take phone calls at various times of the day and night. I am opening myself to accept emails or texts at anytime and will answer them when I can outside of office hours. Please continue to be patient and understanding as we are figuring this out as we go. Through all of this, communication will be the key! Stay prayerful and not fearful. We will continue praying over our families, students, and staff as we do daily. Pray for our nation, love one another, be kind and giving. Talk to you all soon! Mrs. Talbert P.S. - Tell my students I MISS THEM! They literally make me laugh (...and yell) everyday lol and I miss it :)
